PRESS RELEASE 26-02-2014
Luton – With over 300PS generated from its 2.0-litre turbo engine, the Astra VXR EXTREME will be the most powerful front-wheel drive Vauxhall ever when it’s unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Derived from last year’s Astra Cup race car that competed in the Nürburgring Endurance Championship, the EXTREME is the lighter, more powerful street-legal race sibling to the current Astra VXR.
Shorn of 100kg, thanks to liberal use of high-quality carbon components, the EXTREME’s natural environment will be the race track. If public reaction is as positive as expected, Vauxhall plans a low-volume production run for the EXTREME.
With direct injection and variable camshaft phasing, the EXTREME’s 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine is the most powerful four-cylinder unit Vauxhall has ever produced. The all-aluminium engine is mated to six-speed manual gearbox transmitting power through a limited-slip differential.
The EXTREME is 100kg lighter than a standard Astra VXR thanks to its high-quality, carbon fibre components. This high-strength, ultra-light material is used for the aerodynamically-optimised rear wing, the diffuser, front spoiler, bonnet, suspension cross-bracing, engine cover, wheels, rear wheelhouse ventilation and roof.
Noticeably lowering the EXTREME’s centre of gravity is the in-house manufactured carbon fibre roof which weighs just 2.6kg, compared with a steel roof’s 9.3kg. The wings are made of aluminium and weigh only 800g a piece instead of 2.2kg in steel. Weight reduction in key areas greatly improves agility, overall handling and the car’s power-to-weight ratio.
Vauxhall has also given the EXTREME exceptional stopping power to match, with a Brembo six-piston brake system including 370mm diameter discs up front race car. Ultra high-performance, 245/35, 19-inch tyres, specially developed for the EXTREME, also play a key role and give almost as much grip as those on the race car. In addition, the damper is adjustable, just like in a real touring car racer.
Inside the EXTREME, the back seats have been taken out and a safety roll bar put in their place. EXTREME also gets Recaro bucket seats, with six-point safety belts from Schroth and a carbon-fibre-reinforced, suede-covered steering wheel with fine yellow decorative stitching.
The Astra VXR is now the best-selling VXR and the UK remains the largest market in Europe for Vauxhall and Opel’s highest powered models.
The D2 Racing big brake kits are designed to cope with the heat generated by extreme braking on the road or track. Where as the standard braking system will quickly overheat and no longer perform the D2 Racing brake kits will dissipate this heat so keeping the braking system within its operating parameters allowing you, the driver, to brake for much longer and much harder.
The D2 Racing brake kit includes:
Pair of Lightweight Strong Aluminium Calipers
Pair of Race Specification Drilled Discs
Pair of Lightweight Aluminium Bells
Pair of Steel Brackets
Pair of Braided Brake Lines
Set of Fast Road Brake Pads
Full Fitting Kit
1L DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid
The calipers are finished in painted red as the standard colour; Black, Purple and Yellow painted finishes are available at no extra cost.
On the 330mm and 356mm kits 6 pot calipers are used with 32mm discs.
6 Pot 330mm D2 Kit from £1049.00
6 Pot 356mm D2 Kit from £1149.00
Kits are available to order from Courtenay Sport to fit many popular Vauxhall models, including Astra H, Zafria B, Corsa D, Astra G, Zafira A.
Note: May require wheel spacers to fit under certain wheels.

Luton – Vauxhall today revealed the name and first teaser shots of the first new mid-size convertible built and designed by the company for more than 70 years.
Called Cascada, the model is 4.7 metres in length – more than 70mm longer than Audi’s A5 Convertible – with a full-size fabric roof, giving the car a classy and elegant profile, seen in the two official images. The roof can be opened or closed at the touch of a button, even when the car is moving at up to 30mph.
Vauxhall today (17/05/2012) confirmed that production of its next-generation Astra compact car will be built at the company’s manufacturing plant at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. Ellesmere Port will be the lead plant of only two in Europe building the new model.
The decision follows the conclusion of a ground-breaking new labour agreement which was approved by the Vauxhall workforce yesterday. The agreement comes into force in 2013 and runs through the life of the next-generation Astra, into the early 2020s.
After the announcement by Milltek Sport of a 70mm twin outlet cat back exhaust system for the Corsa VXR Nürburgring, Courtenay Sport are pleased to confirm that a full 70mm (2.75 inch) stainless steel system is now available.
The system removes the existing Euro V compliant first catalyst (pre-cat) replacing it with straight through pipework, the second cat in the factory system is replaced with a high flow motorsport cat*, and the cat back system comprises of a stainless steel performance exhaust system with a twin-box rear silencer design with twin outlets.
The system has been developed with three different Tailpipe tip options:
90mm Polished, 100mm Polished and 100mm Titanium
Regardless of which tailpipe option you choose, the system offers perfectly balanced sound quality.
The Corsa VXR Nürburgring exhaust is manufactured from the finest quality 14-16 gauge 2.75-inch T304 stainless steel and features TIG-welded joints, C.N.C. mandrel bending and offers a significant weight saving over the OEM exhaust.
This system will release additional power and torque over a standard system but will require an ecu remap to ensure optimum performance and no issues with management light illumination due to the motorsport catalyst, and removal of the first catalyst. Additionally the second lambda sensor wiring will need extending to fit. The system will also be ideally suited for customers wishing to further tune their vehicles to over 300bhp.
This full system is available at £1950.00 inc VAT and UK Mainland Shipping.
The cat back system is £925.00 inc VAT and UK Mainland Shipping.
Pricing is for either the 90mm or 100mm polished tail trim option.
