Performance Vauxhall Show 2008 - Santa Pod Sunday 8th June

As usual an early start for all involved to ensure we arrived in time and were all set up and ready for the show start. Despite part of the journey down to Santa Pod in fog and mist the day brightened up early and the weather was absolutely superb all day long with clear blue sky, sunshine and temperatures in the mid 20's and then some! Santa Pod 'instant suntans' were in evidence quite early on for those without sun cream! Our mapping engineer Stefan Klasen came over from Germany for the show with his girlfriend Jenny and friend Michael and he brought across his modified Speedster (VX220) Turbo. The car has had extensive modification work including a full engine rebuild, tubular manifold, Garrett GT35 turbo, 100mm airflow meter, M32 gearbox, Klasen Inlet Manifold and more besides (pdf specification sheet). The car boasts some 600+ bhp and 447 lb ft torque. This car still runs the OE engine management system (Bosch 1.5.5) and Stefan has written the software that runs in the factory ecu, proving what is achievable with this management system. The car has OE driveability and is still completely road legal (obviously with the correct tyres!). Stefan piloted the car to an extremely impressive 10.32 second quarter achieving a terminal speed of 145 mph. Without doubt this is the fastest Speedster seen in the UK from any tuner, and fast enough to win the prize for fastest car on the day.. |
