| The Dunlop Production Touring Car Trophy (previously the Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup) is organised by the British Automobile Racing Club. Racing is very close fought across all three classes, which are grouped into 3 classes according to vehicle performance. Class A features cars with 161 bhp/tonne up to 210 bhp/tonne maximum, these include the popular Vauxhall Astra VXR, Seat Leon and Cupra, Megane R26R. Class B features cars with 131 bhp/tonne up to 160 bhp/tonnne and include the Vauxhall Corsa 1.6 Turbo and Mini Cooper S. Class C features cars up to 130 bhp/tonne Each round consists of a qualifying session of 20 minutes to determine the grid for Race 1. Over each race weekend there are 3 races of 20 minutes duration. Starting positions for Race 2 are determined by the finish positions of Race 1. Race 3 features a reverse grid where the starting grid is reversed by a number from 4 to 8, chosen at random by the winner of Race 2. As with BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) success ballast is awarded at the end of each race for the lead cars to even out performance. Success Ballast is awarded in 9kg increments to the top 5 finishers in each class as follows: 9 kgs - 5th 18 kgs - 4th 27 kgs - 3rd 36 kgs - 2nd 45 kgs - 1st Finishers 6th or lower, and any non finishers are not required to carry any ballast into the next race. Success ballast is carried over from the final race of each weekend to the next race weekend for qualifying and the first race. Points are awarded in each class in each race as follows: In each class with four or more competitors: 1st - 15 points 2nd - 12 points 3rd - 10 points 4th - 8 points 5th - 6 points 5 points for all other finishers listed in the results. Any non-finisher is awarded 1 point. 1 point is awarded for fastest lap in each class. Should there be 3 or less starters in a class reduced points will be awarded as follows: 1st - 8 points 2nd - 7 points 3rd - 6 points Any non finishers - 1 point The overall championship winner can come from any of the 3 classes. All cars are required to run on identical Dunlop manufactured control slick tyres, with a wet weather option tyre. Original wheels may be retained or Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels made by Rimstock may be used. Certain modifications are allowed to be carried out which include ecu remapping, exhaust system change, brake upgrades and suspension changes. The cars are, however, very much in keeping with the modified cars you could use on the road and for track days. |
